Sacred Heart of Jesus offers Sunday morning religious education classes for children preschool (age 3) through fifth grade during the regular school year from 10:15-11:30 a.m.

Children also have the opportunity to celebrate with the whole parish community at occasional children's liturgies.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children's Liturgy of the Word is a time for our youngest members (age 3-6) to share God's Word in a way that is appropriate to their age and energy levels.

Volunteer presiders, usually parents, take turns leading each Sunday's liturgy.  Middle and High School students also volunteer as assistants.

What happens at a Children’s Liturgy of the Word?

  1. All gather in the main church for the gathering rite.
  2. After the opening prayer, the presider calls the children forward.
  3. The children follow their leaders to the chapel for their celebration of the Word at their own level.
  4. The children’s Liturgy of the Word follows the structure of the celebration by the adults: Old Testament Reading, Responsorial Psalm, New Testament Reading, Gospel Acclamation, Gospel Proclamation, reflection by the children’s minister of the Word, Creed and Prayer of the Faithful.
  5. Children then take part in an activity to reinforce the theme of the readings.
  6. The children return to the assembly main church during the preparation of the gifts as together, we celebrate Eucharist around the table as one family of faith.
